Hosted by the LA Lakers in collaboration with Hennessy & Bibigo, In the Paint was a unique initiative merging the worlds of sport and art.
The event served as a cultural gathering to spotlight Black creatives and changemakers through an immersive, visually impactful experience. Oda Creative was brought on to set the tone with a standout invitation design and packaging piece that would reflect the boldness of the event and speak to its deeper meaning star studded attendance.
Objective
A convergence of ideas packaged into one stunning, high quality, multi-faceted piece.
Our task was to design an invitation that was far more than a formality—it needed to function as a collectible, a keepsake, and a conversation starter. The goal was to embody the event’s celebration of cultural richness and artistic legacy, while also honoring the Lakers brand and its connection to the community.
Approach
We reimagined the traditional invitation format by developing a sculptural packaging piece—anchored by a basketball-textured base and featuring a custom 3D disc that rotated to reveal layers of bold color and art-inspired visuals.
Custom die-cut inserts, velvet textures, and gold foil accents tied in the luxe and urban feel. This tactile storytelling approach made the unboxing as engaging as the event itself, setting the tone for an experience steeped in impact and expression.
Conclusion
Proof that thoughtful design can speak louder than words.
More than an invite, the piece stood as a symbol—of artistry, identity, and belonging. It captured attention, inspired conversation, and established a visual language that perfectly matched the spirit of the night.
